Perform administrative duties. Secretaries are responsible for interfacing with clients, answering phones, handling written correspondence, and updating and managing files. They must be familiar with how their organizations are structured in order to direct customers to the correct personnel and/or departments to address their needs. They also schedule and coordinate appointments and meetings over the phone, via email, and in person.
In addition to managing internal and external communications, secretaries are frequently responsible for entering and maintaining information in company databases. They may also be asked to organize and appropriately distribute confidential documents, such as billing statements or client records.
