This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health (OMH), Coastal Empire Mental Health Center (CEMHC), Beaufort Clinic, 1050 Ribaut Rd., Beaufort, SC 29902

As the Med Tech, working under direct supervision of the Area Coordinator, you will p erform administrative duties in support of staff in the assigned clinic of the Coastal Empire Mental Health Center.

Responsibilities for the Med Tech include :
  • Complete Patient Assistance Program (PAP) applications and documentation for Center patients.
    Under direction of Center prescribers, perform Prior Authorization (PA) process for patient prescriptions, including coordination with
    prescribers, completion of all relevant documentation, communication with pharmaceutical companies, pharmacies, insurance companies and
    coordination with Center staff. Under supervision, will do medication inventory tasks. Training by medical chief and nursing supervisor.
  • Take messages from refill line, monitor pharmacy fax line, fax out requests for medical records, maintain important
    forms and supplies, and any other clerical duties as needed for Center medical staff (MDs, APRNs, RNs). Training by lead support staff.
    Coverage of front desk as needed.
  • Under direction of assigned treatment team, perform tasks to obtain specialized medical records by
    developing processes and relationships with outside agencies. Make calls to schedule patients for medical providers when directed. Obtain
    vital signs for appointments when directed. May input medication orders and electronic medical record documentation under supervision of
    medical staff. Training by medical chief, senior administrative staff and nursing supervisor.
  • Provide support for medical staff scheduling as needed for the Center. Cross-train to fill-in for similar duties at
    front desk when needed. Training by medical chief, nursing supervisor, clinic directors, and lead support staff.
  • High school diploma and two (2) years of clerical experience; OR associate degree in secretarial science or other related field; OR 3 years of clerical experience.
  • A minimum of one year experience in medical billing/coding as well as ability to work with electronic medical records.
Additional Requirements:
  • Able to work independently.
  • Able to type 35 wpm.
  • Provide back-up for other clerical positions at the clinic
  • Able to work evening clinics on a rotation basis with other staff if required.
  • Attend in-service training as approved by supervisor.
  • Will work closely with nurses, nurse practitioners, and MDs for guidance on prescription access assistance.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
Post hire, employees must:
  • Be able to complete Managing Agitation in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) certification
  • Have knowledge of office management policies, practices and procedures
  • Have working knowledge of the care and operation of standard office equipment & machines
  • Be able to work independently and maintain filing systems collect, compile and assemble information
  • Be able to maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public
