U. S. Steel is seeking an Administrative Assistant III to provide high-level administrative, organizational, and operational support to the Minntac and Keetac mining operations. This role is critical to ensuring the effective coordination of leadership activities across a large, complex mining organization. The position requires exceptional organizational capability, professionalism, discretion, and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment supporting approximately 2,000 employees across mine, plant, maintenance, and support functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the central coordination point between the General Manager and Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, HR, Finance, and Supply Chain.
  • Manage the General Managers calendar, ensuring alignment with operational priorities and proactively resolving scheduling conflicts.
  • Coordinate all internal and external meetings, including staff meetings, leadership reviews, stakeholder engagements, and executive or regulatory visits.
  • Prepare agendas, presentations, briefing materials, and memos, and ensure timely distribution of all meeting documentation.
  • Capture meeting notes, decisions, and action items, maintaining accurate action logs to support accountability and followthrough.
  • Maintain organized records, files, and documentation, and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Screen and prioritize incoming communications to ensure timely information flow across leadership and departments.
  • Plan and manage travel arrangements, site access, logistics, and event coordination for executive visits, leadership tours, and internal events.
  • Support daily office operations, including supply management, onboarding coordination, and training logistics.
  • Anticipate leadership needs by preparing crossdepartment materials and identifying risks in scheduling or communication.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of administrative support experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Proactive, forwardthinking approach

  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions

  • The salary range of $78,114.40 to $117,172 is a good faith estimate, and based on candidate skills/experience the final offer may be lower/higher
