The County of San Diego is currently hiring for a
Records Clerk

This position is eligible for appointment at step 1, $44,262.40 annually. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Compensation Ordinance 1.3.5.

Future Salary Increases

June 2026 6% increase to base pay (3.50% Across-the-Board + 2.50% Market Adjustment)

June 2027 5.50% increase to base pay (3.00% Across-the-Board + 2.50% Market Adjustment)

Interviews dates will take place the week of July 27, 2027 for qualified candidates. The job offer will take place the following week.

The current vacancies are in the Probation Department however, the list established from this recruitment may be used to fill other future vacancies in other departments.

About the Position
Record clerks working in Probation process and interpret information from a variety of source documents, data entry, and customer service. Incumbents in these positions also provide confidential juvenile/adult offenders information to Probation Officers, law enforcement agencies attorneys. Positions may be in assigned to work in locked correctional facilities; interact with resident/incarcerated individuals. Position may be stationed to work in back-office and/or reception and interact with staff from the Superior Courts of California. Probation Records Clerks are supervised by Senior Office assistant and/or Supervising Office Assistant.

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

  • Job Offer and Background Process begins shortly after the interviews conclude.
  • Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
  • Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date

Minimum Qualification

Education and/or Experience
  1. One (1) year of recent full-time general clerical experience performing duties such as typing/keyboarding, filing, reception, and records management; OR,
  2. Completion of an administrative, office, or front desk certificate program from a recognized community or business college.
Note : An associate's degree or equivalent from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency may substitute for experience listed above.

Condition of Employment
As part of the County of San Diegos pre-employment process, prospective candidates will undergo a background check (including fingerprinting) and a pre-employment medical screening prior to beginning County employment. Additional types of background investigations may be conducted based on the job-related activities of the position. Current County employees may be excluded from this process.

Background Investigation
Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Felony convictions will be disqualifying. Misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation which may include a psychological, truth verification or other examination or test.

Evaluation
Qualified applicants will be placed on a twelve (12) month employment list based on scores received during the evaluation of information contained in their employment and supplemental applications. Please ensure all information is complete and accurate as the responses you provide on the supplemental application questionnaire will be reviewed using an automated evaluation system. If you are successful in the initial screening process, your application will be reviewed individually to confirm that the information you provided is accurate and qualifying.
