    Position Summary

    The Attendance Secretary is responsible for maintaining accurate student and staff attendance records, monitoring absences and tardiness, communicating with parents and guardians, and supporting daily school office operations. This position requires strong organizational, communication, and computer skills while maintaining confidentiality of student information.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Record and maintain daily student and staff attendance and tardy information
    • Receive and process parent calls, emails, and notes regarding student absences
    • Verify excused and unexcused absences according to school and Indiana attendance policies
    • Arrange substitutes or class coverage for absent teachers
    • Generate attendance reports for administrators, counselors, and state reporting
    • Notify parents/guardians of attendance concerns and truancy issues
    • Assist with student check-in and check-out procedures
    • Maintain confidential student records in the student information system
    • Answer phones and assist visitors in the school office
    • Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, nurses, and administrators
    • Assist with state attendance audits and reporting requirements
    • Perform general clerical and office support duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Prior secretarial or school office experience preferred
    • Strong computer and data-entry skills
    • Familiarity with student information systems such as PowerSchool or Skyward preferred
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills
    • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
