Health Unit Clerk Obstetrics, Part-Time (2nd shift)

We are looking for a Health Unit Clerk to join our collaborative team at Memorial Health!
What You'll Do:
Clinical/Technical
- Maintains confidentiality at all times to protect patient’s privacy and maintains HIPAA privacy and security regulations
- Enters and retrieves data and related information from computer database (Paragon); prepares statistics and other information in report form for use by appropriate parties
- Verifies accuracy of information to ensure appropriate patient care decisions
- Functions as a unit resource person for Paragon
- Files, assembles, and retrieves records from cabinets and drawers; maintains proper location of all information to ensure accessibility to nursing staff, physicians, ancillary services, volunteers, patients and visitors
- Stock patient rooms (including linen, supplies, and equipment)
- Set-up of vaginal delivery tables
- Procures supplies, instruments, and equipment for deliveries and surgical procedures
- Properly opens sterile supplies
- Labels and prepares specimens for pathology
- Hand washes instruments to assist central sterile technician as required
- Processes used linen, trash, instruments, sharps, and waste products at completion of deliveries and c-sections
- Assists with cleaning patient rooms, operating room, and equipment as needed
- Learns new procedures, use of equipment, safety information etc. in order to provide safety in the workplace
- Travels to and within hallways and patient’s rooms quickly in order to respond to codes and emergency situations.
- Monitors inventory of supplies and forms and reports needs to director in a timely fashion; acts as resource for new employees, agency and float personnel.
Interpersonal
- Communicates with patients and families to provide information on education; provides kindness and consideration in meeting the emotional needs of patients; instructs family and others on location of waiting room; confers with RNs and interacts with ancillary services
- Communicates and assists physicians as indicated
- Maintains appropriated written, verbal, and telephone communications
- All interactions are conducted in a professional manner.
- Resolves conflict through one-on-one negotiation or with assistance of Director or their designee.
- Demonstrates the philosophy of team concept.
- Participates in unit projects, attends committees as assigned, and attends monthly staff meetings
- Greets and directs visitors; ensures visitors are made to feel welcome and comfortable
- Retrieves advanced directives for charts as indicated
Documentation
- Records clinical information within the range of Health Unit Clerk functions (vital signs on graphics, etc.)
- Maintains accurate data collection in observation log and assists with data entry in the delivery log as needed
- Refrains from using unaccepted abbreviations in written documentation.
- Reviews and documents advances directives according to policy
- Posts memos and communications as required
Unit Financial Accountability
- Monitors the amount and appropriateness of supplies and equipment for unit use and reports to unit director and inconsistencies in use of supplies and equipment.
- Participates in charge master audit
Emergencies
- Responds to emergencies outside normal working hours. (i.e, internal and external and surgical emergencies)
Other

- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Attends all mandatory education and in-services (i.e., team training, safety, infection control, etc.); completes mandatory health requirements.
- Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s and department’s Ethics and Compliance program and is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or the hospital hotline.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
Completion of high school education supplemented with coursework or experience which evidences basic knowledge of patient care techniques (i.e. currently enrolled in nursing or other related medical field and/or proven competency based qualifications of Patient Care Tech II).
