In 2023, the State of Ohio established and funded the Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society at the University, with a statutory mission to conduct teaching and research in the historical ideas, traditions, and texts that have shaped the American constitutional order and society. ORC 3335.39 .
The Chase Center is a multidisciplinary university center that will conduct teaching, research, and public programming concerning the core texts and great debates of Western civilization; the principles, ideals, and institutions of the American and Ohio political order; and the foundations of responsible leadership and informed citizenship. The Center is an independent academic unit within the University, and one of a growing cadre of similar centers of civic thought and leadership in Ohio and throughout the country.
Administrative Assistant Position
The Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society is conducting a search for an Administrative Assistant, a person who will work closely with the leadership team and faculty to build the Center into the flourishing academic community described in ORC 3335.39 . As with all members of the Center, the Administrative Assistant will support the Chase Centers mission.
The Administrative Assistant will provide a broad range of support services for the centers Associate Directors and faculty. Administrative support will include:
- Travel planning and post-travel expense reports and reimbursements.
- Scheduling meetings for department faculty, staff and leadership team.
- Submitting purchasing requisitions for academic program and public event needs.
- Tracking expenditures for department programs, events, grants and sponsorships
- Assisting with faculty and staff onboarding, and ongoing IT service needs.
- Tracking faculty expenditures and assisting with classroom and course needs.
- Assisting with departmental events, including travel, accommodations, catering and logistics for guests.
- Developing department standard operating procedures and process documents to streamline improve efficiencies.
- Managing office supplies and equipment.
- Tracking student enrollments, verifying scholarship eligibility, coordinating logistics for study-abroad, and processing applications to our programs.
- Providing student support for undergraduate and graduate students who are part of our academic and members programs.
This position is expected to use substantial judgment and independent decision-making, professionalism, attention to detail, and confidentiality. Successful candidates for this opportunity will: anticipate needs and possess the mental acumen and ability to put the big picture together by knowing what questions to ask and when to ask them, demonstrate agility in developing connections internally & externally, develop resources to implement efficiencies, and ideally possess awareness of University policies and procedures across different aspects of University operations. Evening, weekend work, and travel may be required on occasion.

- Regular in-person attendance is expected unless optional arrangements are agreed upon with the Executive Director.
Minimum Required Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- 2 years of related administration experience.
- Considerable experience interacting and liaising with leadership in an academic capacity.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately and with discretion.
- Effective in managing multiple priorities.
- Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Dedication to providing excellent customer service; exhibiting behavioral leadership qualities.
- Ability to anticipate needs and pivot successfully and appropriately while balancing competing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint) or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated programs and software.
Desired Experience:
- Bachelors degree, preferably in a field related to the Centers mission.
- 5+ years of experience supporting senior leadership.
- Experience working in a public, non-profit, or higher education setting.
- Knowledge of Ohio State University policies, rules, and procedures.
- Knowledge of Workday.
The Targeted Hiring Range for this position is $21.11 - $27.77 . The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
