Job Summary

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of general and varied clerical duties in support of an assigned office; answer phones and greet and assist students, parents and visitors.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES NEED THE FOLLOWING

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed below.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard.

Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.

Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.

Seeing to read a variety of materials.

Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to file materials.

ELIGIBILITY LIST:

An eligibility list will be created from this recruitment and will be good for one year or until the list is exhausted. It will be used as follows:

1. To fill current and future permanent vacancies which may occur during the life of the eligibility list;

2. To create a list of substitutes for the current class and other related classes. Substitutes work on an as-needed basis to fill in for absent employees.

Uploading a resume.

Uploading three letters of reference.

Veterans eligible for preference points on entrance examinations need to attach a copy of their DD214.

Uploading an illegible, blank or wrong document will result in an incomplete application and you will be disqualified. The information you choose to disclose in your application plus the documents uploaded to your application will be used to determine your eligibility ONLY if your application is complete. Once the recruitment closes, updated documents such a resume will not be

accepted/replaced.

REQUEST TO TRANSFER PROCEDURE:

Request to Transfer needs to be completed and submitted to the Personnel Commission by 5:00 pm the day of the deadline. Forms may be downloaded at ( www2.cusdk12/nsite/? p=1553 ). It is recommended that a Transfer includes the information you want the interview panel to consider. Some of the recommended documents are: Resume and/or Letters of Reference.

Comments and Other Information

EXAMINATION PROCEDURE:

The examination process will include the following: Applications must be submitted by the deadline and will be screened for completion. Only if the application is complete will it then be screened for eligibility and meeting the minimum requirements. Applicants who meet the minimum requirements and whose application was complete at the time the recruitment closed will move forward to the following examination process:

Examination Process- A multiple choice exam will be administered to evaluate the applicant's job related knowledge. The exam consists of different categories such as grammar, spelling, punctuation, basic math, reading comprehension, safety, principles, and/or practices of the trade or profession. The weight of this exam is 100%. The date of the multiple choice exam is TBD. Applicants need to achieve a minimum passing score of 70%. Eligible applicants will be notified via email to the email address listed in their Edjoin application of the date of the exam.

Applicants who score at least a 70% in the Multiple Choice Exam will be placed on an eligibility list (good for up to one year) in rank order of their examination score. Interviews are made from the top three ranks from a promotional eligibility list (current employees). If less than three ranks of promotional applicants are available, the remaining rank(s) will be obtained from the open eligibility list (outside applicants).

If fewer than three ranks are available for certifications a new examination/recruitment may be requested and conducted. Merit Rule 50.200.4 (B). Please note that if a new recruitment is requested and conducted, you will maintain your examination score from the multiple choice examination however, your rank may change as a result of subsequent recruitments. The scores of new eligible applicants from the subsequent recruitments will be merged with the initial eligibility list.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Merit Rule #50.100.2 (B)

Any permanent classified employees of the District who voluntarily resigns from his permanent position may be reinstated or reemployed by the Board of Education of the District within 39 months after his last day of paid service and without further competitive examination, to a position in his former classification as a permanent or limited-term employee in a related lowers class in which the employee formerly had permanent status.

Merit Rule #50.200.1

A. Names shall be certified for appointment from employment lists in the sequence that follows:

1. Automatic appointments to Layoff Reemployment list candidates, until exhausted;

2. Promotional eligibility list (three ranks);

3. If less than three ranks of Promotional candidates are available, the remaining rank(s) are to be obtained from the Open eligibility list.

B. In addition, the following candidates will be eligible to interview for the vacancy(s): Request to Transfer requests meeting at least one of the following criteria:

1. A classification within the same range or higher in a related classification; or

2. An employee who has taken a voluntary demotion being restored to his former class or to a related lower class, within 39 months -Rule #60.200.3.

Telephone techniques and etiquette.

Basic record-keeping and filing techniques.

Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Operation of standard office equipment including a computer.

Oral and written communication skills.

Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

Basic math.

ABILITY TO:

Perform routine clerical duties such as filing, typing, duplicating and maintaining routine records.

Learn modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

Answer telephones and greet the public courteously.

Type at 35 words per minute from clear copy.

Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer.

Understand and follow oral and written directions.

Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Complete work with many interruptions.

Receive, sort and distribute mail.

Perform basic mathematical calculations.

Learn to administer basic first aid.
