The Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs (LDVA) is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Assistant Secretary of Military Affairs. This newly created executive position has been established to serve as a key liaison between Louisiana's military installations and the LDVA.

The Assistant Secretary of Military Affairs advocates for transitioning service members, supports military installations throughout Louisiana, promotes economic and workforce development initiatives, and advances policies that strengthen Louisiana's military presence and veteran community. This position will be filled as an Unclassified Appointment and will require a highly disciplined and motivated individual. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

  • Incumbent must be a veteran.
  • Extensive, firsthand knowledge of military installations and military leadership structures.
  • Strong professional communication, public relations, stakeholder engagement, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout Louisiana.
  • Professional communications experience with a Master's degree in Communications is preferred.

Some key responsibilities include:

  • Military Installation Support & Advocacy: Build and maintain relationships with military commanders, installation leadership, elected officials, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, Veterans Service Organizations, and community stakeholders.
  • Transitioning Service Member Support: Advocate for transitioning service members and veterans on issues impacting their successful transition to civilian life.
  • Veteran Recruitment and Retention Initiatives: Support statewide efforts to recruit, retain, and return service members and veterans to Louisiana.
