Police Records Assistant - Part-Time

The St. Charles Police Department seeks to hire a competent, dedicated, customer service focused assistant to staff the Police Records front desk. This part-time position is scheduled Monday - Friday 4:30 pm - 9:30 pm, totaling 25 hours per week. Responsible for a variety of administrative and customer service tasks at the Police Records front desk. Assists with inquiries, projects, and tasks as requested or assigned.
- Welcome citizens and visitors by greeting them, in person or on the telephone, and answer or refer their inquiries appropriately.
- Receive citizen complaints and take appropriate action to initiate an efficient response. This includes handling after-hours non-911 emergency callouts for City staff to respond to a variety of situations.
- Utilize written procedures and department computer systems to make inquiries, perform miscellaneous clerical functions, and assist the public , officers, and other law enforcement agencies.
- Accept various cash payments and issue receipts with accuracy.
- Monitor department surveillance, intercom, and security system.
- Applicants may occasionally work alone in the office and should have flexibility to cover other shifts when needed to provide office coverage.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of receptionist or administrative experience, prior police experience is a plus.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully and maintain composure in stressful situations.
- Operate a variety of computer systems, software programs, and applications to perform data entry.
- LEADS (Law Enforcement Automated Data System) authorization, or able to obtain within six months.
- Perform duties with initiative, good judgment and resourcefulness.
- If selected, successful completion of a background investigation, to include fingerprinting, and drug screen.
Starting pay is $29.26/hr. This part-time position is pension qualified with the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and eligible for the 457 deferred compensation plan and paid holidays.
