The Transportation Services Department is seeking a Field Maintenance Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ),12-month, professional faculty position.
This position is in Transportation Services within the Division of Finance and Administration at Oregon State University. Transportation Services provides safe, sustainable, customer-focused, and fiscally sound transportation programs and services. Transportation Services provides transportation options for commuters on the Corvallis campus as well as services and support for on- and off-campus transportation through the Beaver Bus campus shuttle and more. Transportation Services has a broad customer base including staff, faculty, students, service providers, and visitors.
Reporting to the Parking Manager, the Field Maintenance Manager ( FMM ) is responsible for the maintenance staff in Transportation Services who play an important role in creating a welcoming and attractive campus environment. Additionally, the FMM oversees contracts for services provided for parking lot repair and maintenance. The person in this position regularly works in the field to be easily accessible to their staff, providing leadership and coaching to ensure high quality maintenance.

What We Would Like You to Have:
Working Conditions / Work Schedule:
The person in this position will work up to 50% of their time outside supervising field staff and inspecting their activities with limited supervision and regardless of weather conditions. The remainder of their time will be spent in the department shop space or in an office environment. They work with all types of coworkers and community members in varied situations with confidence and decorum.
The hours for this position are variable but the primary schedule will be 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mon.-Fri. Work schedule may also include shift adjustments, holidays, or weekends as needed. Work is primarily outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
The person in this position may also experience: long periods of sitting and/or standing, repeatedly climbing in and out of a vehicle, moving up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, or crawling to complete tasks, work with various hand and power tools, including propane fired torches and tar melting pots, work on a ladder or other elevated surfaces.
The work environment for this position may allow exposure to high noise levels, dust, fumes, and chemicals associated with construction, maintenance, and cleaning.
The incumbent must wear appropriate safety equipment as required by OSU Policy, and State and Federal requirements.

- Anticipate and evaluate upcoming facility, equipment and staffing needs for department maintenance activities.
- Schedule and coordinate routine maintenance like pressure washing, sign maintenance, gravel installation, striping, and other parking facility maintenance tasks.
- Responsible for the departments work order management system used to plan, assign and monitor maintenance tasks.
- Ensure staff document task completion with accurate records, regularly inspects maintenance work for quality and compliance with standards, and quickly remedies any inadequate or incomplete work.
- Leads maintenance staff to quickly respond to changing work conditions (caused by weather, activities on campus, or other unforeseen circumstances).
- Develops or updates maintenance and evaluation checklists to ensure an ongoing awareness of maintenance needs.
- Regularly assesses the condition of capital assets and minor equipment.
- Assists the Parking Manager with oversight of contracted maintenance services by inspecting work for quality and timely completion.
- Works with the Parking Manager to maintain and implement the departments pavement management plan.
- In consultation with other campus transportation professionals, locates permanent traffic control devices without conflicting with utilities or landscaping.

- Hires, trains, evaluates and schedules maintenance staff.
- Coordinates proper safety and skills training.
- Identifies processes that need improvement for greater efficiency, organization, and error avoidance.
- Clearly defines maintenance staff roles in writing through current position descriptions and written expectation documents, and regularly communicates expectations with staff and shares when they are or are not being met.
- Conducts performance reviews for reporting employees.
- Meets regularly with their supervisor and other department leaders to ensure consistent communications, report accomplishments, and evaluate areas for improvement.
What You Will Need:
- Three years of professional experience in parking, transportation, or related operations.
- Two years of experience providing supervision or lead work to facilities, maintenance, trades or operational employees.
- Highly effective communication and customer service skills in a diverse community.
- MS office suite experience, particularly with Excel or similar programs.
