The Department of Veterans Affairs Network Operions Center (NOC) defends, manages, and monitors the network opering stus and cyber security posture of the VA by providing the day-to-day management, monitoring, operions, and configurion of the Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) Geways, the delivery of enterprise security systems and services, the conduct of thre and vulnerability analysis, the validion of adeque security controls within the enterprise, and the full range of functions across the spectrum of activities reling to incident management, incident response and enterprise network management.
We are looking for a qualified network engineer to support the Network Edge Operions team. You will work with a team of network engineers / administrors dediced to serving this nions Veterans. The Network Edge Operions team is staffed 24/7/365 to maintain and analyze large, diversified networks comprised of enterprise grade networking equipment from a diverse set of vendors. Daily functions will include checking the stus of various aspects of the VAs network utilizing dediced monitoring tools and processes as well as assisting with customer reported connectivity issues.

Responsibilities:- Maintains operional and security capabilities of the VAs network geways
- Supports the VA NOC by providing Tier II network engineering support and troubleshooting.
- Respond to Help Desk escalions via phone call, email, or the VAs ticketing system.
- Maintain existing NOC processes and procedures as well as recommend improvements to the chain of command.
- Maintain evolving corpore knowledge including informion in diagrams, dabases, technical documention, etc.
- Participe in technical reviews and recommend solutions and/or improvements where possible.
- Performs routine maintenance on network devices and services.
- Works closely with network architecture and engineering transition teams on projects destined for operional implemention.
- Firm knowledge with IP addressing and Subnetting, TCP/UDP, Access-control lists, DNS, Nslookup
- Understanding and preferably experience with: Network Address Translion (NAT), Port Address Translion (PAT) Routing, IPSec VPNs, Cisco CLI (ASAs, routers, switches), Palo Alto Firewalls and Panorama (GUI), Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), F5 Local Traffic Manager, F5 Global Traffic Manager, Wireshark or similar tool
- Educion / Experience: Bachelors degree in Computer Science or reled technical field with 0-2 years of experience. 5 years of additional experience maybe substituted for degree.
- Background Investigion: Must be able to pass and maintain a Tier 4 (BI) Governmen
- Desired Skills
- CCNA (route/switch) or CCNP a plus
- CCNA Security or CCNP Security a plus
- Knowledge of multi-area OSPF, BGP and MPLS environments
- Experience with Citrix Access Geway and NetScaler's
- Experience with Cisco Any Connect VPN, Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE)
- Experience setting up Site-to-Site IPSec VPNs utilizing Cisco Firewalls and/or Cisco Routers
- Experience using network management tools such as Solarwinds, NGenius, RightIT NOW
- Familiarity of applicion-level protocols such as HTTP/HTTPs, SSL/TLS, DNSSec and SNMP.
- Experience with utilizing ticketing systems for tracking and reporting work.
- Experience running network level packet capture and analysis to assist with troubleshooting efforts.
