This position performs a variety of duties required to process and maintain the daily functions of ambulance billing and HIPAA compliance. Additionally, the incumbent receives, reviews, and processes official documents, ensures proper coding, recoding and maintenance, and provides information and assistance to the public and other County departments
  • Receives, records, indexes and/or processes a variety of official documents to include data entry, ICD, CPT coding of EMS transport claims, cash postings of payments, and patient accounts;
  • Ensures electronic filing of claims and follows up on claim denials;
  • Assists in the coordination of securing outstanding claims;
  • Processes incoming postal mail;
  • Accepts, receives, records, and/or collects payments;
  • Obtains patient insurance information from hospitals and/or patients directly;
  • Assist patients and insurance companies with patient account inquiries and questions;
  • Review of transport PCR reports for accuracy of documentation and maintain State and Federal regulations are complied with and assistance with QA process
  • Distributes patient statements and paper claims;
  • Documents claims status and patient account notes in billing system;
  • Maintains filing system for patient care reports;
  • Assist with logs, invoices, and prepares copies for Subpoenas, Medical Examiners, and patient information requests;
  • Prepares a variety of reports which document office activities, services and transactions, to include departmental and agency information;
  • Provides office support and clerical functions as needed
  • Observes all approved safety and health policies and procedures pertaining to an employees work activities and performs all work tasks in a safe and healthy manner in accordance with County policy.
  • Performs other assigned duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires the use of fingers, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Two (2) years of related work experience;
  • Medical Billing/Coding/Claims courses and Ambulance Coding Certification from NAAC
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Driver's License valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Employees will either be deemed essential personnel and provide services that must continue regardless of or pursuant to a state of emergency or will be deemed nonessential personnel that will be required to report to work in an emergency if they receive an assignment to shelter duty or other duty.
