GRADE ASTD11 LOCATION OF POSITION Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack 2765 North Salisbury Boulevard Salisbury, MD 21801 Main Purpose of Job The main purpose of this position is to provide a complete range of administrative and secretarial support duties to the Barrack Commander, Assistant Commander, Criminal Section Commander, as well as uniform and civilian personnel assigned to the Leonardtown Barrack. This includes working in coordination with allied law enforcement agencies and the public. POSITION DUTIES

Responsible for typingconfidential material for the Leonardtown Barrack Command Staff, as well asTroopers.

Prepares routine andnon-routine letters of appreciation, endorsements, detailed reports, SpecialOrders, Form 17's, and routing slips.

Checks Commander's andAssistant Commander's mailbox in their absence. Reviews incoming mail andfaxes. Notifies Commander or Assistant Commander of matters needing immediateattention.

Open and appropriatelydisseminate all incoming departmental and U.S. Mail daily. Check barrack emailsdaily and answer all correspondence or direct to appropriate personnel.

Answerphones and forward calls to appropriate personnel; and provide information tocallers in accordance with Departmental directives.

Responsible for thedaily processing of all invoices and bills submitted to the installation.

Prepares the CheckAccountability Log for checks received for copies of reports. Prepares andcompletes the bank deposit and ensures a copy of the Check Accountability Logand deposit slip are sent to Finance Division and filled in accordance to theagency retention procedures.

Maintains, controlsand oversees the entire filing system in the barrack, which includes personnelfiles, by ensuring those files are of sensitive nature are kept locked andsecured and to ensure data is placed in the correct designated file.

In the absence of theAdministrative Specialist, composes and prepares news releases containinginformation on criminal activity/arrests and traffic incidents.

Others duties asassigned by Supervisory or Command personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience : Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes :

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Two years ofexperience providing secretarial support to an official,administrator or an administrative staff .

2. Independentlyprepares correspondence and statistical reports.

3. Experience workingat the Municipal, County, State or Federal levels of government.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard on a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

In accordance with Section 2-204(b)(6) of the PublicSafety Article, Candidates for position in this classification will be subjectto an initial drug screening and a complete criminal background investigation beforepermanent appointment can be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds forrejection of the candidate.

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications willbe considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that youprovide complete and accurate information on your application. Successfulcandidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED,BETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for atleast one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by thehiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of youreducation, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.You may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating maybe based on your application. Report all experience and education that isrelated to this position. Applicants may be given a physical examination andwill be subject to an interview, background investigation, polygraphexamination and substance abuse testing.
