PRIMARY PURPOSE

Design, implement, secure, and maintain the district's network, server, cloud, and backup infrastructure, including local area networks (LAN), wireless local area networks (WLAN), wide area networks (WAN), virtualization platforms, and associated systems. Develop, implement, and continually improve the district's cybersecurity program and security controls to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of district systems and data.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or related technical field. Equivalent qualifications with eight years of progressively responsible experience considered.
  • Relevant industry certifications preferred, such as CCNA/CCNP, Microsoft, Google, CompTIA CySA+/CASP+, or CISSP.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong experience administering WAN, LAN, WLAN, VoIP, firewalls, web filtering, VPN, and network security systems (Cisco preferred)
  • Strong experience with virtual server infrastructure (HyperV preferred), storage area networks (SAN), enterprise backup, and data center cooling & power systems
  • Knowledge of relevant information security frameworks such as NIST, CIS, ISO, SCF, or CoSN's K-12 Cybersecurity Framework
  • Knowledge of legal requirements and regulations including CIPA, FERPA, COPPA, Texas SCOPE Act, and applicable student data privacy requirements

Experience

  • Eight years of relevant and progressively responsible experience is preferred.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Network & Compute Infrastructure

  1. Design, implement, and maintain the organization's network infrastructure, including LANs, WANs, Wi-Fi, voice, DNS, DHCP, and associated services.

  2. Design, implement, and maintain the organization's core computing infrastructure, including virtualization platforms, servers, cloud environments, storage, and backups.

  3. Administer Microsoft Active Directory, Azure, Entra ID, Group Policy, and identity/access management systems (Cisco ISE).

  4. Coordinate vulnerability management and critical security patching processes for servers, network infrastructure, and security systems.

  5. Support administration of district-hosted telephony and converged VoIP communication systems (Cisco), security cameras, and access control systems.

  6. Participate in on-call and after-hours support responsibilities to ensure availability of critical infrastructure systems.

Cybersecurity

  1. Develop, recommend, disseminate and enforce information security policies, standards, procedures and practices.

  2. Monitor security systems, threat intelligence sources, and Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs); assess risk and coordinate timely remediation and mitigation.

  3. Coordinate cybersecurity training and awareness programs for district stakeholders

  4. Coordinate cyber incident response preparedness, and facilitate tabletop exercises.

  5. Manage and operate various security platforms such as EDR / NDR, IDS / IPS, MFA, Cloud Access Security Brokers (CASB), and secure email gateways.

  6. Assist with the development, testing, and maintenance of disaster recovery and business continuity plans.

Administration

  1. Review technical specifications and drawings and advise the construction department on technical aspects of facility construction and renovation projects.

  2. Coordinate the district's ERATE federal funding program.

  3. Develop and implement standards and comprehensive lifecycle replacement programs for all infrastructure and cybersecurity systems.

  4. Maintain infrastructure and security monitoring systems, logging platforms, and alerting mechanisms to support operational reliability and incident detection.

  5. Monitor advisories, professional organizations, regulatory guidance, and legislative developments affecting technology systems and data privacy compliance.

  6. Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain system operation and appropriate product support.

End-User Support

  1. Communicate directly with end-users and Technology Department staff members to detect and resolve network, device, and software problems.

  2. Provide advanced technical support and highest tier escalation support for Department of Technology help desk staff.

Other

  1. Maintain confidentiality.

  2. Comply with district regulations and safety guidelines

  3. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise network and system specialist(s) and assist the director with operational coordination and oversight for other technology department staff.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; server systems, networking equipment; hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations.

Environment: Work indoors; frequent on-call and after hours work; occasional districtwide travel; may be required to be on-call 24 hours a day
