Job Description
St. Johnsbury School District is seeking an Administrative Assistant to the Principal. The St. Johnsbury School District (STJSD) serves more than 1,000 students, Pre-K through 8th grade and tuition our high school students to several area public and independent high schools. St. Johnsbury School District has approximately 550 students in Prek to Grade 8 and approximately 200 full-time employees all in one school. We have an excellent outdoor educational space, new playgrounds and a dedicated team with an emphasis on employee wellness. We are located 4 minutes from I-91 at Exit 21.
The Administrative Assistant to the Principal is a non-exempt full time all year long position. The role is responsible for maintaining an efficient, supportive and pleasant office environment for staff and families, together with the Receptionist.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Principals as Administrative Assistant and be the first point of contact for every staff member
Support all calls for both Behavior and Principal
Substitute Coordinator
Assist in planning and facilitating graduation
Oversee student photo scheduling both individual and group photos
Support yearbook advisor
Classroom and student support liaison
Document procurement and retain records for grant purchases according to district procedures
Enter requisitions into accounting system
Track and receive orders according to district procedures and handle incoming packages
Track transportation/Manage the Vehicle sign in and sign out/schedule
School Facebook page/Smore Newsletter
Responsible for report card preparation
Responsible for schoolwide mailings (Welcome back letters, any other bulk school mailing for teachers)
Manage EST processes as needed by principal
Provide backup to the Receptionist as needed
Provide backup when Data Manager/Registrar is out (student attendance)
Other duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications
Experience as a secretary in an office setting
High school diploma
Demonstrated ability to manage computerized systems
Attention to details for proofreading and social media
Knowledge of office equipment.

Clear verbal and written communication
Telephone systems and call handling protocols
Scheduling and calendar management
Common office software (e.g., email, word processing, spreadsheets, Canva)

Cognitive endurance, stress tolerance, sustained concentration, emotional and psychological health, mental fatigue, and a sedentary work lifestyle. Must be comfortable working in the public.
Hourly wage is based on years of experience and educational level. Staff get vested in the State Municipal's Pension after 5 years of service. This is year round 260 days, 5 vacation days in the first year of employment, 10 vacation days starting in year two, 5 personal days, 15 sick days, 4 emergency days, 5 bereavement days and professional development as granted. BCBS of Vermont is the health insurance. The employer pays 82% of the BCBS premium plus the first $2200 for single coverage or $4400 for multi-person plan of the out of pocket costs (HRA) plus 100% of prescription costs. Employer pays for single dental coverage, employee's life insurance and employee's long term disability insurance. We have an amazing Employee Wellness program. We also have half-days during in-service of employee wellness with many choices to participate. We have an InvestEAP program, PATH, mental health resources, employee connect, travel connect, Lincoln Wellnesspath, Lifekeys, life insurance and long-term disability insurance all employer paid benefits.
