As the CAPS Mental Health Receptionist, you will:
Serve as the first point of contact by greeting and welcoming patients and others (in person at the reception desk or via telephone) to the Counseling and Psychological Services Department (CAPS).
Responsible for answering incoming calls in a professional manner, scheduling patient appointments and/or checking in scheduled patients per established protocols.
Using good judgment, assess and provide information to patients either in person or on the phone while ensuring patient confidentiality.
Schedule appointments using a complex electronic medical record (EMR).
Determine patient eligibility, schedule and maintain appointments.
Process clinical data forms through the EMR prior to patient appointment and assist patients by answering questions related to the clinical data forms in a professional manner.
Complete immediate re-booking of any changed or cancelled appointments.
Keep all client electronic charts up to date through maintenance of the complex electronic medical record.
Utilize excellent communication skills to manage our diverse clientele, UNL community, and guardians.
Have a detail orientation and exercise confidentiality around documentation of information.
Assist the professional CAPS team with psychoeducational materials and general correspondence.
Open and close the reception and workroom area each morning and night.
Act as liaison with other UNL departments/agencies, local hospitals and community agencies.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Associate's or equivalent education/experience plus two years of full-time office work. Demonstrated ability on and a well-developed working knowledge of the computer and Microsoft Office. Customer service experience, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly working with customers or clients who are challenging or experiencing personal difficulty is desired. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize work tasks while exercising the highest degree of confidentiality in all matters. History of dependability in previous work. This person must have the ability to manage crisis situations, exercise good judgment and the ability to be flexible.
Preferred Qualifications
Four years of full-time office work. Experience working in an environment with considerable interaction with people, ideally in a mental health context is preferred. Prior experience interacting effectively with individuals in emotional crisis is desirable. Experience working with college-age students or for a university or college is helpful. Higher level of knowledge specifically Word and Excel preferred.
